Apple

President of Sony Ericsson U.S., Anderson Teixeira, and the Head of Region executive in North America, has decided to move up the bigger tree with riper apples. After working with Sony for ten years, Teixeira has decided to venture off into the new beginnings. Recently being appointed the “Head of Latin America” at Apple, Teixeira will be the official Latin American division manager.

With the new growth and December openings of Apple stores in 16 Latin American countries, its presence in Latin American is only growing. Apple hopes this growth will result in a progressing opportunity for the company. From one year to the next Brazil had already increased 118 percent over in revenue. Moreover, Teixeira, a Brazilian native, will be the first regional manager Apple has had in recent time.

News Corp.

Rumors around town have been officially confirmed that Rupert Murdoch’s media giant, News Corporation, will be challenging U.S. Spanish-language broadcast networks Univision and Telemundo, by launching a rival in partnership with Colombian broadcaster RCN Television.

MundoFox, which will be part of News Corp.’s Fox International Channels unit, is scheduled to launch this fall as the Hispanic audience in the U.S. continues to grow. Colombia-based RCN Television Group already produces popular shows for Spanish-language networks in the U.S., such as “El Capo” and “Yo soy Betty la Fea.”

The network will be available to anyone with a digital antenna and will mark News Corp.’s first venture into a free Spanish language market. The real question remains to see though, how different MundoFox’s content will be in order to offer a real alternative to the 50-plus million Latino viewers who currently have limited options in Spanish-language broadcast television.

social

An enormous opportunity currently exists for brand across the platform in social media… but this rings especially true in marketing to Hispanics in the U.S.! We know Hispanics to be keen users of social media so why are so many brands missing the mark?

Recently, the multicultural- research firm, Latinum, took a look at 184 different brands and found only 34 of them had any sort of presence in Spanish on Facebook. So it would seem to be very beneficial for the first brands willing to do so.

When doing so there should be a few basic principles that marketers should be wary of in their approach:

1.) Use professional translators to develop the copy. Machine translations are often full of errors and miss the cultural nuances that are apparent to someone who’s been immersed in the language and the culture.

2.) Update content frequently. Don’t let your site go stale, keep the audience engaged and the communication flowing by updating often.

3.) Monitor and respond to users asap. Customers expect answers from brands almost immediately; they are looking for that instant gratification. In fact, in a study by The CMO Council only 12% were willing to wait days for a resolution.
